International Competition for Piano Trio and Piano Quartet from March 29 to 31, 2022.

In March 2022, the HfMDK will be a meeting place for international chamber music ensembles. They will compete for the Schumann Chamber Music Prize Frankfurt in the piano trio and piano quartet categories. The final round will take place in the Alte Oper as part of the renowned chamber music series of the Frankfurter Museums-Gesellschaft.

Inspiration Schumann - Meeting place chamber music

The Schumann Chamber Music Prize Frankfurt is organized by the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) and significantly supported by the Dr. Marschner Foundation. Partners are the Frankfurter Museums-Gesellschaft, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Robert Schumann-Gesellschaft Frankfurt and the Festeburgkonzerte.

The Main metropolis had a special significance for Robert and Clara Schumann. Many contemporary composers also found and still find an important source of inspiration in Robert Schumann. That is why a work by Robert Schumann or one of his epochal companions is always a compulsory piece in the competition.

The top-class jury - with Erika Geldsetzer, Prof. Angelika Merkle, Prof. Krzysztof Chorzelski, Prof. Michael Uhde, Prof. Michael Sanderling and Prof. Natalia Prishepenko - will select the final prize-winning ensembles in three rounds of judging.

Prices

All ensembles that come to Frankfurt will receive media coverage through live streams and radio recordings. The winners will receive prize money totaling 18,000 euros and follow-up concerts. The Schumann Society also awards a special prize for the most impressive interpretation of a work by Robert Schumann or his companions. In addition, the jury members will be available to answer questions from each ensemble after the live rounds in detailed consultations.

  • 3. Prize: 4,000 euros
  • Special prize from the Schumann Society: 2,000 euros

Coaching and advice 'Ways into the future':

Following the competition, the three ensembles in the final round will also be given the opportunity for an individual workshop day. The musicians will work with professionals from the HfMDK and external advisors to hone their individual ensemble profile.

  • Objectives of the workshop day: (further) development of the individual ensemble profile, analysis of strengths and weaknesses, creation of a claim and the development of a specific repertoire

The venues for the international chamber music competition are the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK) and the Alte Oper Frankfurt. The final round with the awarding of an audience prize will take place on March 31, 2022 in the Mozart Hall of the Alte Oper.
