Composer in Residence

In 2021, the "Composer in Residence" scholarship will go to the Cologne-based composer Farzia Fallah. During her stay in Frankfurt, she will compose a new work, which she will rehearse together with students of the HfMDK and perform in December.

The composer, who was born in Tehran (Iran), studied composition in Bremen, Cologne and Freiburg and convinced the five-member jury of experts, among other things, with her strongly distinctive own style, her wealth of ideas as well as her poetic compositions. During her three-month stay in Frankfurt, Farzia Fallah will compose a new work, which she will rehearse together with students of the HfMDK and present at a portrait concert at the end of the scholarship in November/December.

#SpecialEdition in light of the Corona challenges

The working scholarship "Composer in Residence" is a 3-month working scholarship for female composers. In cooperation with the Institute for Contemporary Music IzM of the HfMDK, the Archiv Frau und Musik announces the working scholarship every two to three years. Female composers of all ages and nationalities can apply. In view of the extraordinarily difficult situation for female composers due to the Corona pandemic, the 2021 call was directed as a #SpecialEdition - an explicitly national call - at women composers within Germany.
